"The collection of wrought iron represented Santiago Rusiñol (Barcelona, 1861 - Aranjuez, 1931) initiation into the world of collecting, as his teacher, the painter and collector Tomàs Moragas (Gerona, 1837 - Barcelona, 1906), introduced him at a young age.

The interest in the recovery of the past, mainly medieval with a romantic base, was promoted by the movement of the Renaissence in the mid of XIX Century, put the art objects at the same level as architecture, painting and sculpture.
Rusiñol gathered a group of more than 700 wrought iron household and liturgical objects, dated between XIII and XIX century, most of the geographical area of Aragon. These objects entered the collection mainly through purchases or other private collectors and exchange gifts.

Since the Twelfth century Catalan forge became a benchmark for iron work throughout Europe. Reaching its splendor on the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, when the art of forging was common in all Romanesque and Gothic buildings."
