From 1950 portable transmission cases were basic equipment for photojournalists. This "Picture Transmitter" by Muirhead was gifted to the Museum Foundation in 1989 by the German Press Agency (DPA). It is operated on shortwave, and in good weather transfers a photo in 12 minutes. The award-winning photo of the Vietnamese Napalm Girl by Nick Ut was sent to New York in 1972 via a device of this type from Saigon via Tokyo.
