Pier table

Pietro Piffettic. 1735 - c. 1740

Palazzo Madama

Palazzo Madama
Torino, Italy

Pietro Piffetti is the cabinetmaker who, more than any other, typifies and honours eighteenth-century craftsmanship in Piedmont: he worked for the House of Savoy and for the court, creating a huge number of works, some of which are assigned or documented, while others are attributed to him for their unmistakable stylistic qualities. The Museum has twelve works by the artist. A scene of a deer hunt, partly taken from an engraving by Nicolas Bonnart, appears in the centre. The rinceaux and lozenges are similar to the intarsia in others works. This suggests that models or cartoons were used for making the precious work.
