Huang Junbi was born in Nanhai, Guangdong province. His original name was Yunzhi and had another name called Yunxuan. Huang mainly referred to himself as Junbi, which was actually his literary . In his later years, he used another literary name called Junweng. His study was named the “Cloud Chamber” (baiyuntang). He worked as Dean of the Academic Studies at Guangzhou Municipal College of Fine Arts in 1927 and later as a professor of art at the National Central University. He moved to Taiwan in 1949 and became a professor and Dean of the Department of Art at National Taiwan Normal University. He was renowned as one of the “Three Masters across the Taiwan Strait,” the other two of which were Zhang Daqian and Pu Ru. He excelled at mountain and water painting and was especially famous for his clouds, water, and waterfalls.
