In a very real sense Wally Weekes can be seen as "The Father of Bondi" and the "Founder of the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club". He was a man whose remarkable life symbolised the Australian character. He was so well known both around North Bondi and in Sydney's boxing and athletic fraternity that he was endlessly sketched and depicted in cartoons.
