This is a plaque which was hung in front of the Crown Tutorial Office. The Crown Prince Tutorial Office was responsible for the education of the crown prince. “Spring quarter (春坊)”was its nickname. The calligraphy was written in 1829, the 29th year of King Sunjo’s reign, by the Crown Prince Hyomyeong (1809-1830), the son of King Sunjo. From the right side, “睿筆”, “春坊”, “輔導”, “啟沃”, “八月初一日(the first day of August),”and “天地長男宮筆”are written. “睿筆”means 'the calligraphy of the crown prince', and “天地長男宮”seems to refer to the palace where the Crown Prince Hyomyeong lived. “輔導”means 'helping to lead', and “?沃”came from the passage “open your heart and pour water into my heart” in the Confucian classic, Book of Documents. The passage literally means 'to give what is in my mind to the mind of others', which implies to teach and guide the king and the crown prince wholeheartedly.
