English Heritage

A detail of the ceiling in the library. This shows a goblin type creature emerging from a plant. The designer of the ceiling is unknown. The ceiling in the library is copied from the design in the Dining Room, its decoration is based on this original Jacobean ceiling. In the 1760s this room functioned as a ladies dressing room. In 1825, Henry Shaw and Henry Harrison imitated Jacobean elements.
