Soviet propaganda porcelain. The artistic director of the State Porcelain Factory, graphic artist Sergey Chekhonin (Сергей Чехонин, 1878–1936) was the author of many porcelain painting sketches. In the composition “Cubist Plate with a Hammer” Chekhonin uses stylization of forms and contrasting colours – the white porcelain tone highlights black, red and blue geometric figures. But the symbol of the new Soviet power – a sickle with a hammer and a fragment of a gear, is designed as an elegant decor.
