Jean Paul Zelada (Trujillo, 1972) references the Battle of Angamos (1879) in order to question the way in which this episode and Peruvian history in general have been constructed around the glorification of certain heroes. To this end, the artist has chosen to reproduce in paint a photo featuring the Peruvian president Augusto B. Leguía, the cabin boy Alberto Medina, and other Afro-Peruvian sailors who survived the battle but who have not been classed as heroes by official history and do not figure in the iconic images of the war with Chile.
