The Strong National Museum of Play
Rochester , United States

In the middle 1940s it was popular, especially among young girls, to collect and trade regular playing cards. Girls formed collections around the images on the backs of the cards; one could collect birds, automobiles, clowns, or any combinations of typical card backs of the time. This particular collection was formed around images of animals, which the little girl liked. She saved her card collection and gave it to the museum years later, as an adult.
