Plebiscite of Roma (October 2nd 1870)

After the Italian troops, led by Raffaele Cadorna, had occupied Rome, the Pope gave in to the violence and retired to the Vatican. On October 2nd 1870 Rome too had a plebiscitary election that ratified its annexation to the Kingdom of Italy.
