This piece of embroidery is based on one of the masterpieces of Li Shan (1686-1762 AD), one of painters of the “Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou”, that the painter himself liked the best. The painting features freely-arranged brushwork and elegant strokes in the inscription. Thanks to the embroiderer’s flexible application of various techniques in accordance with the sections of image, this embroidery piece vividly reproduces the noble characters of plum trees and the artistic charm of calligraphy.
