A young Pokot girl wears a magnificent collar necklace made from beads cut from the fine branches of the asparagus tree, and then slathered with ocher and animal fat for beauty. Her necklace indicates her status as an unmarried girl. She is soon to undergo her initiation into womanhood, at which point she will be prepared for marriage.
