Museo Casa del Mendrugo

Museo Casa del Mendrugo
Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza, Mexico

Magnetite is a mineral derived from iron, with magnetic properties and shiny appearance. Its extraction and use was very scarce in Mesoamerica, probably giving place to a very specialized industry with a production destined to personages of elite and for use in special rituals.
In this mirror of magnetite emphasize sgraffito lines arranged according to the cardinal points. It is possible that, during the time when this site was occupied as a village on the Formative Horizon, it has served as an instrument to carry out ritual activities related to the measurement of time or calendar cycles.
