During the Classic period (250 BC to 900 AD), the Maya produced a lot of ceramic pieces which include human and animal figures, and decorated containers, including cylindrical cups. They represent the Gods or dignataries, scenes of mythological, religious and everyday life, and zoomorphic figures of common or sacred animals. They were painted with intense polychromy. Along with the painted images, it is common to see several glyphs or symbols which complement the design
