Polyporus sulphureus on a upright tree spreads in horizontal layers; if from a recumbent log, in concentric ruffled blooms. Resplendent when young, its colours, peach-salmon above and sulphur-yellow below, are of unparalleled brilliance: in age it may lose some of its incandescence, turning slightly olivaceous, as shown here."
