Li Chaoshi born in Mei County, Guangdong province. As one of the earliest Chinese painters who study in Europe, Li Chaoshi introduced gouache art to China for the first time. In 1911 he went to study in Britain, followed by a stint in France. In 1918 he graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Paris, France ( École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris ) and returned to China the next year. As a professor, he successively taught in Shanghai Fine Art School, National Beiping Art College and National Academy of Art. 1951,he was appointed the professor of the Art Department of Shandong Normal College. He also was the chairman of the Shandong Branch of China Artists Association.
