This work was inspired by a visit to the area near Yatsukami tunnel at Hamamura Beach in Tottori. For his sketches of sand dunes, Kokuryo had come to Tottori several times, before eventually walking around Hamamura Beach in July 1989. Tsunero Kokuryo is known for creating numerous paintings of desolate sceneries around sand dune motifs. In this work, the black birds wheeling above a pool of water are one efficient element that helps orchestrate an atmosphere of desertedness.
