Birdstones are enigmatic objects that are found in the Great Lakes region of the United States and Canada. Their purpose remains unkown, but some scholars have suggested that they served as part of an atlatl because there are commonly two holes in the base of the birdstones through which a rope could be passed. This is an example of what are known as popeyed birdstones.
