This programme documents the tradition of regattas in Port Adelaide. The regatta included serious sail races and amusements such as greasy pole competitions. Thousands attended from the local community and beyond. The official Souvenir Programme of the Port Adelaide Regatta, 1 January 1907, held on the Port River. It was priced at threepence. It is a soft green-covered booklet, black print, comprising 36 pages. It contains photographs, a list of officials, rules for the regatta events and various advertisements. The cover graphic features a setting sun and a number of ships.

  • Provenance: The program was sold at the Port Adelaide Regatta for threepence in 1907. Port Adelaide's first rowing 'regatta' took place in September 1838 between Captain Hart of the Porcher and Cook of the Eden for the amusement of their shore-going friends. There was a sailing race and two rowing races. Regattas and rowing races were part of sporting life on the Port River from the earliest days of European settlement.
