This is a stationery case used to store and carry a writing brush, an ink stick, and an ink stone. Designed to be portable, the case was small and made of lightweight wood with minimal metal fittings. The stationery case shown here is a two-tiered structure with seven compartments. The second tier is a large compartment presumably used for storing paper, and the first tier consists of six compartments: one for a writing brush, one for a stamp, a small drawer divided into two sections, and two large drawers. The second tier is covered with a sliding lid, which is fit into the groove on the upper part of the side panels. The first and second tiers can be separated into two compartments by pulling out the lock plate from the knob. The compartments in the first tier are joined together by interlocking protruding parts into grooves or holes, and thus can be separated and reassembled, which allows the space to be optimally utilized. The panels are joined with butt joints and fixed with bamboo nails.
