State Chancellery Saarland
Saarbrücken, Germany

This keychain was made of plaited ignition wire. Such ignition wires are used to electrically trigger a demolition blast. Other jewellery pendants were also plaited and handcrafted from various coloured ignition wires. The inventiveness of many miners to reuse material remains from the pits for private use was practically unlimited. For example, many of the Saarland's grills, the so-called "Schwenker", were made with materials taken from the pits.
