Portrait head

The art of ancient Cyprus is a hybrid of Greek and Oriental elements. The almond-shaped eyes and ‘archaic smile’ derive from Greek art, while the stylisation of hair and beard rather recall elements of neo-Assyrian art. The head was part of a votive statue that was donated to a deity.
