Gaspar Netscher (Dutch, 1639-1684), a portraitist of the Dutch elite, gained notoriety for his realistic depiction of textile textures. Netscher was also a painter of genre scenes. He studied under Gerard Ter Borch's tutelage and due to Netscher's likeliness appearing in several of Ter Borch's painting, may have served as his assistant.
