Dearborn, MI, United States

Alexander Y. Malcomson was Detroit's largest coal dealer and Henry Ford's business partner. Using Malcomson's money, Ford bought machinery and material to prototype Ford Motor Company's first automobile. Malcomson sold his Ford stock in 1906 after a dispute over the direction of the company. His other automotive venture, Aerocar, was short-lived. Aerocar went broke in 1908, the year this portrait was made.
