Bust of a man portrait occupying almost the entire support area against background in darke earthy tone. The portrayed is slightly front facing left; has oval face, dark hair, forehead with strong entries, straight eyebrows, almond-shaped eyes facing forward, long, narrow nose and thin lips closed and square chin. wears suit on earthy-gray tone with vest, handkerchief out of his jacket pocket, on the right side, light shirt and blue tie with pearl pin. Background in earthy tone seeing the on the left shoulder near the edge of the on the right side edge of the support.

  • Function: Portinari made this portrait at the atelier of Lula Cardoso Ayres, his friend and colleague at the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes / ENBA, at Rua das Laranjeiras 99, Rio de Janeiro. The execution of this portrait, like that of “Portrait of Lula Cardoso Ayres” [FCO 2911], was documented on film in 1928 by Maurício, brother of Lula, who had just purchased one of the first video cameras in Brazil. It is the earliest video documentation of Portinari [FV 49].
