This half-length portrait of Custodio Carderera, brother of Valentín Carderera (one of the driving forces behind the creation of the Huesca Museum), shows him in three-quarter view on a gray background. He wears the uniform of arcipreste del Pilar (archpriest at the Cathedral-Basilica Our Lady of the Pillar), along with several medals. These include one given to academics at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Luis (Real Academia de Nobles y Bellas Artes de San Luis). In this informal portrait, the painter has tried to capture his character without any of the formal conventions of official portraits, although the subject's manner is severe and distant. This type of portrait shows the influence of Vicente López y Portaña. It was painted between 1850 and 1860. Other portraits of family members that were painted around the same time, and which show a similarity of style, are those of Valentín's first cousins, Mariano and Vicente Carderera, and Mariano's wife, Francisca Pozán.
