Ca’ Granda – Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico
Milan, Italy

Edoardo Azeglio Vicini (1874-1942), iron craftsman, works all his life in this sector with his brother Ignazio. A man of great artistic sensitivity, passionate about music and sculpture, he is also a good amateur painter. In the will, in which he names his brother as the universal heir, he assigns the house he owns to Via Canonica 84 to the Ospedale Maggiore. The commission for the portrait is entrusted to Carlo Varese, an artist dedicated to landscape painting, who in this paint works with sober and dull tones, and in the definition of the volumes recalls Cézanne painting.
