Gaspare Vismara (1605-1667) dies without heirs and leaves the Ospedale Maggiore heir to over 200 land poles (approximately 15.5 hectares) in the municipality of Rho (Milan). In the will he also establishes the inscription for his tomb in the church of San Francesco in Porta Vercellina. The portrait was commissioned from Giovan Battista Tedeschi, a painter whose other works are not known (not to be confused with Giovanni Battista Todeschini), and paid 24 lire. At the bottom right on a cartouche, in Latin, the inscription recalls the date of death.
