In his will of February 6, 1676 the priest Giovanni Maria Pasquali, canon in the Milanese church of Santa Maria Fulcorina, as the inscription says, leaves his books to the Ambrosiana Library, 12,000 lire to the Ospedale Maggiore and 3 lire to each of his relatives up to to the fourth degree. The portrait is entrusted to a painter of whom there is no information, who is presumed Spanish from the surname, and who receives 21 lire as compensation. It has probably been extensively retouched: the head seems false and not in line with the rest of the painting. This painting is part of the group of six canvases stolen from the hospital in 1978 and found the following year.
