About the author: Zygmunt Ajdukiewicz, (1861 Witkowice – 1917 Vienna), A painter, a cousin of Tadeusz Ajdukiewicz, also a painter, a representative of Realism, genre painting, derived from the 19th century Academic Art and based on solid craftsmanship. He began his studies at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow, then studied at the Academies of Fine Arts in Vienna (1880–1882) and Munich (1883–1885). After graduation he settled in Vienna, and in 1893 he went to Paris. He was a painter of the court and aristocratic circles, he realized mainly portraits, historical paintings and genre scenes – military, country fair and hunting scenes, where he incorporated motives and themes from the life of the former Polish Eastern borderlands. He dealt with illustrating literature and history – for the Emperor’s palace in Vienna he made a series of paintings based on the story of golden fleece. In 1891 he painted a cycle of 12 paintings with scenes from the life of Tadeusz Kościuszko. He illustrated The Deluge by Henryk Sienkiewicz.
