Portrait of Lady Hampden, Susan Henrietta Cavendish. Lady Hampden married Henry Brand (1841-1906), 2nd Viscount Hampden. He was Governor of New South Wales from 1895 to 1899, and an MP from 1868-73, 1880-86.

Viscount and Lady Hampden moved to the new colony from England in 1895 following his appointment as Governor of New South Wales. They completed many official duties throughout their service, including the laying of the foundation stone of the Ladies Pavilion. The Hampdens returned to the mother country four years later in 1899. Their daughter Margaret later married Brigadier-General Algernon F. Ferguson and formed the connection to the prestigious Ferguson family. Lady Hampden is the great-great-grandmother of Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

Together Lady Hampden and he had nine children.
