Portrait of Mary Lilienthal

Hudson River Museum

Hudson River Museum
Yonkers, NY, United States

These portraits of two of the Lilienthal children were painted about twelve years earlier than those of their parents below. They are dressed alike, as was common for very young children at the time (pink and blue were not assigned to different sexes until the 20th century). Or if Mary was painted slightly later, she may be wearing the same outfit, as a hand-me-down from her brother.
