Pietro Mascagni (1863-1945), opera composer famous for his Cavalleria Rusticana, studied alongside Giacomo Puccini at the Conservatoire in Milan, even though
they were both from Tuscany. Also a capable conductor, he performed his operas frequently from the podium at La Scala. Amongst the many of his works staged at
La Scala, he had numerous revivals including L’amico Fritz. The Museum’s archive contains the manuscript for his Guglielmo Ratcliff and a Messa di Gloria.
