Rachele Bertolaja (died February 19, 1889), on the death of her husband Antonio Morandi, which took place in 1885, makes a conspicuous donation to the Maggiore Hospital asking that both her portrait and that of her spouse be performed. The hospital commission instructs Cesare Tallone to carry out that of the deceased. The portrait of the benefactor is commissioned to Ferdinado Brambilla, who uses a photograph as a model, and depicts her in widow's clothes, with a photo listed as mourning in her hand.
