Affidavits affixed to the back of this portrait and WAM 38.444 assert that these portraits were painted by Charles Willson Peale and depict the artist's son and daughter-in-law. However this seems unlikely. This miniature is more in the style of Raphaelle Peale. The frame are not original to the paintings.

PEALE, JR. of 2416 Spruce Street, who, being duly sworn according to law, did depose and say that he personally is attaching this affidavit on one miniature to a Portrait of RAHPALLE PEALE [sic], my Great-grandfather, which was painted by his father, CHARLES WILLSON PEALE and has been in our family for over one hundred years.
