During one of his stays in Palermo, the young Paolo Vetri probably had the opportunity to meet the elderly artist Salvatore Lo Forte, who had been the master of a whole generation of painters. He was sensitive to the Neapolitan realistic trend and Vetri depicted him with a hand on his hip and a defying look by playing on powerful and basic colour contrasts, and a strong expressiveness.
