In 2014, a young man was beaten and chained naked to a lamppost in the Flamengo neighborhood, Rio de Janeiro. The scene that betrays our slavery past was recorded by a woman horrified by what was happening, but was praised by a TVanchor as an example of an appropriate reaction by citizens who suffer from the absence of the state. Months later, Maria de Jesus was murdered on a beach in Guarujá, in São Paulo, after being mistaken for a woman described on social networks who was accused of kidnapping children to practice black magic and witchcraft.

Brazil boasts a shameful number of lynchings, many of which are documented and reproduced in photo¬graphs and videos. Perplexed by this situation, the Garapa collective decided to focus on these images. They spent months of excruciating work researching Brazilian videos on YouTube.
