Local landmarks like libraries, municipal buildings, and city halls often appeared on souvenir postcards such as this one, symbolizing learning, progress, civic pride, and therefore, the city itself. Buildings such as these also represented excellent architectural design. This postcard, postmarked 1909 , captures the experience of one traveler who wrote on the reverse side, "Dear Edith, This library is certainly the most beautiful place I was ever in, with its fine white marble and its inlaid designs. I have been only over a part of it."
