Fifty-one million visitors attended the New York World's Fair over two six-month periods in 1964 and 1965. Patrons walked the expansive fairgrounds (occupying nearly one square mile in the borough of Queens) to view futuristic buildings, exhibits, and elaborate displays, all of which promoted Peace through Understanding.
