Pot

Medium sized pots with fairly wide neck and roulette decoration below the neck made by women potters. They collect the clay from the stream, pound it until it is soft then mix it with water. The mould is shaped and smoothed with a piece of calabash or animal skin using water. The hole handles are made with a stick and decoration done by rolling a maize cob to beautify the pot. After this the pot is placed in a cool place away from the sun for four to six days until its dry. A fire of cedar wood(teet) is prepared and the pot in for at least three hours. This particular pot was made by Kilanu and he passed it on to his grandson.The women use this pot to make beer for men to consume. The owner may lend the pot to another woman to use to make pombe(beer) also.
