An increasing number of miners were required in the Saar region due to the increasing industrialisation and the workforce continuously increased. The huge influx to the mining regions caused an increase in the demand for accommodation and miners from other districts were also enlisted. Leopold Sello, the head of the Saarbrücken mining authority, laid the foundations for the premium house in the middle of the 19th century, which became the model for all of Saarland. The mining families were able to build their own home in close proximity to the pit at particularly favourable conditions according to a specific sample blueprint.
