Food is evidently a crucial component of the Kalash clan, tying them together in mourning and celebration alike. The remarkable festival of Chowmoz takes place in the cold Kalashi December. During this event, the people of Kalash specifically make walnut infused dishes like the walnut Phulka, which is a roti made from barley flour and crushed walnuts. People in Kalash are avid chai drinkers as well, and tea is just as fundamental to them as it is in any other place in Pakistan. Their local tea, Bhirbo, is sourced from walnut essence that can be taken with salt or sugar as per preference.
