Privy Garden

English Heritage

English Heritage
United Kingdom

Behind the chapel to the south is the Privy Garden. From the 12th century, this area was partly cut off from the rest of the castle by a range of buildings along the line of the garden wall, and by the chapel itself.
From 1913 it became Princess Beatrice's private or Privy Garden, and this has been the inspiration fro the new Princess Beatrice Garden, designed in 2009 by the garden designer Chris Beardshaw as the result of a bequest.
