The Brooklyn Academy of Music opened on Montague Street to great fanfare, with a subscription for the six nights of opening week priced at $7.50. To encourage and accommodate attendance at the weeknight opera, the city arranged with the Brooklyn City and Central Railroads to add extra trains and have them waiting at the nearest stops as the performance ended. As the program notes, “This will enable the residents of the most distant localities in the neighborhood of the City to reach their homes by half-past eleven.”
