At Chanxaxa’s request this picture was taken during the giveaway ceremony in summer 1909. He and his wife Pte Hin Papa wore traditional clothes on this occasion. The 78-year-old Chanxaxa was Frederick Weygold’s primary informant on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Details concerning the life of his wife were not conveyed to the museum.
