In Egypt, silver was so rare that it was impractical to use it for coins. As a result, the Ptolemies produced large bronze coins like these. On the front of the coin (left), is the head of Zeus. On the reverse (right), is an
eagle clutching a thunderbolt, both symbols of Zeus. Near the eagle’s head is a small cornucopia.
