PURSE

This miniature example is constructed from knotted silk attached to a gold-coloured metal frame. Patterns for creating homemade purses were a regular feature of such publications as The Ladies’ Album of Fancy Work (1850) during the mid-nineteenth century. Upon completion the purse could be taken to a local purse maker to have the frame added or if in a suitable fabric the frame could be attached at home.
