Whiting & Davis (established 1876) remains a leading international maker of mesh handbags. Until 1909, the year A.C. Pratt invented an automatic mesh-making machine, the mesh for each bag was laboriously linked together by hand. Many of these bags are highly decorative and made from precious metals. This model is relatively modest because it was manufactured during, or shortly after, the Second World War.
