Little is known about C.C. Shepherd, the maker of the unique puzzle and game "Who Killed Clck Robin: A New Play in Ten Parts." The late 19th century game takes the form of a play, as the players recite verses to the then-famous nursery rhyme "Who Killed Cock Robin." As they recite, they turn over numbered cards which have printed images, illustrating the poem, on the reverse. The two parts of each verse match two cards which fit together like a puzzle. A grim story by today's standards, "Who Killed Cock Robin" originated in England during the 18th century, though many scholars believe it to be much older. Playing this game and putting the puzzle together likely helped children memorize the poem.
